The
Pediatric AIDS Chicago Prevention Initiative (PACPI) was established in 2000 by Pediatric AIDS Chicago to help eradiate the transmission of HIV/AIDS from mother to child. PACPI has helped fund and develop HIV-specific prenatal classes, a statewide hotline for those who work with pregnant HIV-positive women and a model for enhanced case-management to link HIV-positive women to appropriate care.
PACPI is a collaborative enterprise that brings together public and private institutions and community-based organizations into a coordinated continuum of primary and secondary prevention efforts to achieve our goal - the elimination of pediatric AIDS in Chicago.
PRESS RELEASE - June 2, 2005
After a record-breaking fundraising effort this past year, Northwestern University’s Dance Marathon is proud to announce the Pediatric AIDS Chicago Prevention Initiative as the primary beneficiary for Dance Marathon 2006.
PACPI began in December of 2000 with the mission to ensure that no baby in Illinois is ever again born with HIV and that all pregnant infected women have access to care and treatment. The organization is a collaborative enterprise that brings together public and private institutions and community-based organizations to achieve its mission.
As a pro-active organization, PACPI has woven together a safety net of prevention that includes HIV-specific prenatal classes, a statewide hotline for those who work with pregnant HIV-positive women, and a model for enhanced case management to link HIV-positive women to appropriate care. By helping to train all 10,000 labor / nursery / delivery nurses in the state, it seeks to ensure that every pregnant woman has the opportunity to be tested for HIV and has access to state-of-the-art care. The enhanced case management program has linked over 100 of the hardest-to-reach, hardest-to-link women to care, helping to ensure healthy pregnancies and the best outcomes for both mother and baby. The hotline has helped to meet immediate needs of women identified throughout the state with urgent services that help link women to care.
This unique collaboration between Dance Marathon and PACPI will benefit the Northwestern community as well by developing awareness. Students will benefit from programs offered by PACPI and from events co-sponsored by both organizations.
Since 1998, Dance Marathon has also granted the Evanston Community Foundation as the secondary beneficiary. This year ECF will be receiving a record 10% of the total dollars raised. With the increased funding, ECF will enhance its community program services to non-profit organizations while continuing to dedicate most of Dance Marathon's support to grant awards. ECF is a publicly supported philanthropic organization dedicated to enriching Evanston and the lives of its people, now and in the future. Both groups are excited to increase their partnership and foster growth between Dance Marathon and the Evanston community.
Dance Marathon 2006 will take place in early March at Norris Student Center on the Evanston campus.
